How to Measure a Bottle for Custom Labels Correctly

Don't guess your sticker size! Follow this simple "Paper Method" to get the perfect fit for your bottles, jars, and cans.

Why "Eyeballing It" Doesn't Work

One of the most common mistakes when ordering custom labels is estimating the size with a straight ruler against a round surface. This often leads to labels that are too short to wrap around or too tall for the bottle's curve, causing unsightly wrinkles.

In the video above, we demonstrate the most accurate way to find your dimensions: The Paper Method.

Step-by-Step Guide

1

Measure the Circumference (Label Width)

Take a blank sheet of paper and wrap it tightly around the bottle where you want the label to sit. Make a mark with a pen exactly where the paper overlaps.

*Pro Tip: If you want a gap between the ends of your label, simply subtract a few millimeters from this measurement later.

2

Get the Exact Number

Lay the paper flat on a table. Use a tape measure or ruler to measure the distance from the edge of the paper to the mark you made.

3

Determine the Height

Measure the vertical height of the flat surface only. Do not measure over the curvature of the bottle neck or base, as this will cause the label to crease.

In our example, the safe flat area is 13 cm.

Final Calculation

Width (20.5 cm) × Height (13 cm)
